HYDRO-DIP APPLICATIONS

TWNCERT

WHAT IS HYDRO-DIP?

Hyrdo-dipping is a method of transfer printing where a treated film is placed on the surface of a dip tank. The object to be printed is dipped through the film (into the water) which transfers the print pattern to the object. This method allows you to apply graphics, images, or patterns to almost any three-dimensional object. Other names for Hydro-dip include:
  • Immersion Printing
  • Hydro-Imaging
  • Water Transfer Printing

Hydro-dip Applications

Hydro-dip has been a staple of the automotive industry for years but recent updates (and an explosion of new patterns) have made broader applications possible and practical.

ThreatWerx specializes in weapons and related items but we can and Hydro-dip just about everything from Guns, to knife hilts, to helmets, to bike parts…really just about anything made of plastic, metal or wood. The real benefit is that we can apply complex patterns to odd shaped objects. The effect is smoothly applied and it looks stunning!

How is Hydro-dip Applied?

Hydro-dipping is a multi-phase process that includes the following steps

  • Cleaning –The object is cleaned with a solvent to remove dirt and grease
  • Buffing – the object is lightly sanded (or sand blasted) to promote adherence
  • Priming – The object is primed with a base coat that works well with the pattern to be applied
  • Placing and Activating the film – the film is sized and placed in a bath of hot water (temperature control is essential) and then sprayed with an activator
  • Dipping – The object is slowly dipped into the bath
  • Rinsing – Once the pattern is applied the object is thoroughly rinsed
  • Coating – A clear protective coating is applied – now that snakeskin Tuba you’ve always dreamed about is a reality

What makes Hydro-dip from ThreatWerx different?

Hydro-dipping is pretty simple process but there’s a difference between what an amateur or hobbyist (even a good one) can do as compared to a professional.  Be sure that your item is in the hands of a trained staff, who work in a professional (standards based) shop.

You can “un-do” treatments but it involves more solvents and more dipping and not all items respond well to multiple treatments.   We get it right the first time.

At ThreatWerx We Offer

Highly Trained Staff

All of our craftsmen have been professionally trained not only on Cerakote but also on weapons, weapon systems, shop procedures and other coating procedures.   Our work has to meet the standards of both military and law enforcement (Mil/LE) and we hold ourselves to that standard for every customer.

A Professional Shop

At ThreatWerx we hold ourselves to the highest standards for shop procedures, safety, and environmental controls, often going above and beyond local and state regulations.   We hold ourselves to these standards because we believe that how you do anything, is how you do everything.  You can rest assured that when your item is in our care, we’ll treat as well as you would yourself.  Also, when the process is done, Mother Earth will be no worse off for it.

An Artist's Approach

Our slogan is “The Art of Weapons Craft”.  We believe that there is a magical combination of form and function.  When it looks great, it performs great.  When it performs great it’s a thing a beauty.  No item leaves our shop unless meets our standards.
